Hey! This is me, Barbara with my first blog!

At the last board meeting when the open enrollment policy was being discussed there were a few comments made by some of you that I would like to get clarification on.

1st. Mrs. Wayas made a couple of comments which were (I'm quoting from the minutes) - "The excellence of education obtained here, should be for the students whose parents pay the taxes" and "Congress Elementary School District in the past has done what is best for kids"

2nd. Sergio said (again quoting from the minutes)- "He doesn’t want to shut it off from other kids but wants to protect the Congress students"

3rd. Pat Fisher (somehow not in the minutes but you should still have the recording of the last meeting) said she felt bad for the students who would have to leave especially after they had been here for three or four years because they would have to leave their friends and so on.

I would like to know about the eight children (those are only the ones that I personally know of, there may have been more) that ended up leaving this school (that's over 6% at that time)(6.4% of the children in our school - 125 reported students for that year) because of the decision to change policy and require uniforms and the only opt out provided by this school was simply to provide information on the other schools in other districts because this is a quote/unquote "open enrollment state".

Why didn't anyone care then about "The excellence of education obtained here, being for the students whose parents pay the taxes" or 'protecting the Congress students' or feeling bad about students having to leave their friends and their school after having been here 3 or 4 years already because many of the children that ended up leaving here had been here that long.

Quoting, again, from last months minutes it was said that "Congress Elementary School District in the past has done what is best for kids"

How was that best for those kids? for those families? - these were the districts own children and they were tossed out without a care or second thought.

Why is there more care and concern regarding the out of district children than our own district children??
